Kathryn was diagnosed with cervical cancer and underwent major surgery in December of 2006. Unable to work, Kathryn began living off of her savings and available credit. Some few months later she was diagnosed with even more problems, highly aggressive and deadly Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Double mastectomy surgery followed along with chemotherapy.

In order to make money enough to scrape by on, bravely Kathryn assembled her haunted attraction once again in the fall of 07, though she was undergoing chemotherapy at the very same time and spent much of the time deathly ill. What few dollars she was able to make from that (basically zero advertising dollars to even get any customers to the haunt) to live on is now gone, and there is no income for even basic things like groceries and electricity.
